About Sunset Ridge Pack 82

Cub Scout Pack 82 is an official unit of the Boy Scouts of America chartered to the Sunset Ridge Elementary School PTA.

This is a formal agreement, which states that the National Boy Scouts of America, the local Four Lakes Council, and the Sunset Ridge Elementary school community will work together to provide a fun and meaningful program.

The purpose of this unit is to provide an effective educational program for boys and their families. It is designed to train in citizenship and moral character, as well as to enhance the development of physical, mental, and emotional fitness. In short, Cub Scouting is "Fun with a Purpose."

The Pack consists of approximately 60 boys in 1st through 5th grades who meet once a month at the school or in the great outdoors for fun and adventure. In recent years, Pack activities have included:
  • Carnival Night
  • Sailboat Regatta
  • Space Derby
  • Roller Skating
  • Indoor and Outdoor Campfires
  • Bingo
  • Musical guests
  • Magicians
  • Blue and Gold Banquets
  • Pack Fieldtrips

And of course the boys' annual favorites which include:

  • Pinewood Derby
  • Rocket Launch
  • Indian Lake Campout
  • Summer Day Camp

In addition, Pack 82 has built a float and marched in the Middleton Good Neighbor Festival Parade for the last five years. The Pack won first or second place in the youth float building competition four out of those five years. In 2003 we added an overnight winter camp at Upham Woods in the Wisconsin Dells. This proved to be very popular and will most likely become an annual event.

Boys in the Pack are divided into dens. A den is a group of 5 to 8 boys all of the same grade level. They meet regularly for fun and to work on age-appropriate scouting achievements.

Fieldtrips are also a popular den activity. Boys and their families have had the opportunity to visit:

  • Police Stations
  • Fire Stations
  • TV Stations
  • Factories
  • Planetariums
  • University Laboratories
  • University Football Facilities
  • National Guard Helicopters
  • Quarries with Heavy Equipment
  • Cement Mixing Plants
  • Dairy Farms
  • Home Depot
  • Baseball Games
  • Plus much, much more!

There is one thing that makes Pack 82, as well as all of scouting, very special. That is the fact that the Pack is completely managed and operated by caring, dedicated parents who give vast amounts of their time and energy to make it happen. In doing so they are teaching young people around them the greatest lesson of all. Namely that community service is more important than personal gratification.

Cub Scout Day Camp

Cub Scout Day Camp was held this year on July 1-3 at Festge Park outside of Cross Plains. The theme this year was "Treasures of the Sea".

Campers enjoyed three full days of camp fun and activities including fishing, archery, bb gun, obstacle course, rope tieing, beading, music, food, etc.

There was over 160 energetic area cub scouts and their siblings that attended. Twenty of which were from Pack 82.

A big "Thank You" goes out to the 11 Pack 82 parents that chaperoned or assisted with the camp stations. Without volunteers like you this camp would not be possible.
